Demonstrative Adjectives

Demonstrative adjectives are the Spanish equivalent of the words this, that, these and those, they go before the noun and they have to match with the gender of the word.

Aquel Aquella Aquello That (far)

Uses:

  1. Este, esta, estos y estas

They are used when the object is near to the person speaking. (Intermediate distance between the listener and the speaker.)

Examples:

Este es mi carro nuevo.

Estos son mis pantalones.

  1. Ese, esa, esos y esas

They are used when the object is near to the listener. (Intermediate distance between the listener and the speaker.)

Examples:

Esa taza que tienes en tu mano es muy bonita.

Ese anillo que usas es muy caro.

  1. Aquel, aquella, aquellos, aquellas

They are used when the object is far from the person speaking and listening.

Examples:

Aquellos hombres, dentro del carro, son de Inglaterra.

Aquellas mujeres en el salón son maestras.
