The Marimba, a national symbol of Guatemala, is a percussion instrument idiophone, that has similarity with the Xylophone. Its name “marimba” comes from the Bantu language marimba or malimba; it consists of a set of wooden bars struck with mallets called knobs to produce musical tones. Resonators or pipes suspended underneath the bars amplify their sound. Today this percussion instrument is incredibly popular in Central America. The marimba is truly a unique instrument, the feeling you get while listening to is harmonious, it is usually played for celebrations, it is an instrument that needs to be played with three to five people, you can also hear it usually during September, the independence month of Guatemala, and every Saturday around 6 in the afternoon in the central park of Antigua Guatemala.
