Corpus Christi

On may 31st a new Catholic festive season began in Antigua, asides from the Lent and resurrection of Christ, this celebration of the body of Christ has become more harmonious and more crowded.

In every city, town, village, etc. where there is a Catholic church, the celebration of the Corpus Christi is indispensable since it is a Catholic festivity to celebrate the Eucharist and commemorate the presence of the body and blood of Christ through the Blessed Sacrament. The different congregations and churches of Antigua Guatemala and its surroundings make the organization of these celebrations.

The festivity begins with a mass in the church of San José Catedral, after that, a procession wind its way through the city’s streets. The people go with the procession of the Santísimo and the streets are also adorned with flowers carpets and sawdust that the neighbors of the city do, in addition there are some typical food and drinks sales in the park, this makes people attend with more emotion and fervor.

Then, followed by the first celebration there are many more churches that also celebrate the Corpus Christi, below you will find some of the dates of this celebration so if you are in Antigua you can go and experience this tradition, in addition to taste the delicious typical food that are prepared for this season.

Sunday, June 3 at 09:00 a.m., Church of La Escuela de Cristo, Antigua G.

Sunday, June 10 at 08:30 a.m., Church of La Merced.

Sunday, June 17 at 08:30 a.m., Church of Santa Ana.

Sunday, June 24 at 09:00a.m, Church of San Juan del Obispo.
